The Považská Forest Railway was established in 1912 for the transport of harvested timber, the transport of which was mostly carried out at that time by rafting on the river. The ruins of Považská Castle (also called Bystrica Castle) are located near Považská Bystrica on a steep hill on the right bank of the Váh River.
