POVAŽSKÁ LESNÁ ŽELEZNICA

The Považská Forest Railway was established in 1912 for the transport of harvested timber, the transport of which was mostly carried out at that time by rafting on the river. However, navigating was not sufficient, especially as demand for long logs increased. 

The Hungarian State Forestry Office in Liptovský Hrádok therefore proceeded to build a forest narrow-gauge railway. Track gauge was 760 mm. Operation on the railway started in 1921 (some sources mention the year 1916), transport was provided by steam locomotives. The main line led from Liptovský Hrádok through Liptovská Teplička to Staníkov in the length of 40 km.

Since 1933, in addition to transporting timber on the rail, limited public passenger transport has also been operated. In 1972, traffic was canceled on all lines of Považská Lesní železnice due to unprofitable transport. To date, less than 2 km of tracks were preserved from 107 km of track. 2002 also with locomotives and wagons moved from Liptovsky Hradok to Museum of Liptov village in Pribylina.
