The Považská Forest Railway was established in 1912 for the transport of harvested timber, the transport of which was mostly carried out at that time by rafting on the river. However, navigating was not sufficient, especially as demand for long logs increased.  The Hungarian State Forestry Office in Liptovský Hrádok therefore proceeded to build a forest narrow-gauge railway. Track gauge was 760 mm. Operation on the railway started in 1921 (some sources mention the year 1916), transport was provided by steam locomotives.
