Sklabina Castle

Sklabina Castle is a ruin above the village Sklabinský Podzámok on a hill at an altitude of 626 m above sea level. m. in the lower part of Kantorská dolina 9 km east of Martin. The castle was built in the first half of the 13th century on the site of an older fortified settlement. During the 13th century, it became the center of the castle estate. In 1328, the seat was located here. In 1436 the castle burned down. A little later, they gradually costly modified it. In 1554, the castle was extended by the southern, second fort. These building modifications were also related to the Turkish danger, which threatened especially the southern regions of Slovakia. The manor house was habitable until 1944, when it was set on fire by Hitler's troops as part of partisan battles. It has been in ruins ever since. In 1970, repair work was carried out at the entrance to the complex as well as in the area in front of it.

Today, the ruins of Sklabiňa Castle are open to the public with the possibility of visiting the Castle Museum, recreation, grilling, photography and especially relaxation in a pleasant environment. Since 1999, the castle has hosted the Sklabin Castle Festival every year, organizing meetings of SNP enthusiasts, competitions and training of rescue dogs and various other unplanned and pleasant meetings.
