Žehra Church

The Church of the Holy Spirit dating from the second half of the 13th century is located in the village of Žehra in the district of Spišská Nová Ves. It is one of the typical buildings of the transitional, late Romanesque period. The rarest monuments in the church are wall paintings, forming a complete iconographic cycle. They cover the entire presbytery, the Triumphal Arch and the entire northern wall. St. For his historical and artistic contribution, the Spirit was included in the list of national cultural monuments in 1985. Its contribution to the world cultural history was confirmed by its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993.

Opening hours

The sightseeing of the church takes approximately 30 minutes, during which the visitors are given an explanation. It is not possible to visit the church during liturgical celebrations (mass, baptism, marriage, funeral).
