This massive castle in good conditions is situated on quartzite hill in the village of Casta, about 30 kilometres from Bratislava on the way to Pezinok. Original king's castle from the 13th century was a part of border forts of western frontier with Hungary. In the 16th century it became the property of Thurzo family and from 1535 it belonged to the Fuggers - one of the richest European magnates and financiers. The castle went through several amendments and rebuilts. There are high vaulted cellars built. They are 72 metres long and 9 metres high - the largest in Central Europe. Till 1845 the castle was the residence of the Palfys who changed plain forts into Renaissance-Baroque palace with beautiful interior decorations. Remaining interiors are impressive, plentiful stucco patterns filled with figuration events of mythological scenes. In 1970 the castle was renowned the national culture heritage. There is a museum of historical furniture and housing culture today. Castle exposition offers visitors several types of residential rooms: bedrooms, reception rooms, dinning rooms, and offices. They are furnished in different styles, from Renaissance to historicism. Castle Cerveny Kamen comprised the most modern Renaissance buildings at the time.
The castle exposition consists of historical furniture; pieces of art, guns, china, ceramics, and rich stucco and fresco interior decorations. The castle chapel, pharmacy, library and knights' hall are also a part of the exposition. Renovated winter garden called Salla Terena is open to public.
