Manor house Dolná Krupá

Dolná Krupá is situated 11 km north from the district town of Trnava, approx. 60 km from the capital city of SR Bratislava.

The Classicistic castle from 1793-95 was last reconstructed in 1820-1821 based on the project of A.P.Rigel. The four slim pillars and the tympanum – these are the main identification signs of the building. Today, it belongs among the most beautiful examples of the provincial Classicistic architecture in Slovakia.

The usage of the Brunswick-Chotek castle, a unique jewel of Classicism, for musical-museum purposes is connected with historically documented relations of Ludwig van Beethoven with the family of Joseph Brunswick de Koromp, the owner of the castle. The Slovak National Museum – Musical museum presents here a selection from the rich collection fund of archive documents and collection of musical instruments, as well as the life and work of Beethoven with relation to Slovakia. Except music, in Dolná Krupá also growing of roses has a strong tradition. The rosairum of Countess Mary Henriet Chotek belonged at the beginning of the 20th century to the most fabled ones in Europe. For that reason, roses and music belong at present times essentially to the castle.

The castle as well as the village of DolnáKrupá has been renowned by:- stays of the world famous musical composer Ludwig van Beethoven in the castle; this fact is reminded by the Memorial of L.van Beethoven with stable exposition.

• Mary Henriet Chotek – the Rose Countess (1863-1946), founder of the largest rosarium in the Middle Europe that made its fortune by own rose varieties. The rose tradition is reminded by a number of roses planted in the area of the castle as well as in the village.
• the family of Dopyers – inventors of acoustic rezofoni guitar – it comes from Dolná Krupá and in honour of them a memorial table was placed on the building of the castle by Matica Slovenská in 1993.
