Arboretum Mlynany

The arboretum Mlyňany is an always green park - a botanical garden in the neighbourhood of Zlaté Moravce, in the cadaster of villages Tesárske Mlyňany and Vieska nad Žitavou. It keeps the biggest collection of wood species in Slovakia. The arboretum was established in the year 1892 by the Ugrian lord Dr.Štefan Ambrózy-Migazzi. After the wedding with Antonia Migazzi he got a manor in Mlyňany, later he purchased woods in Vieska nad Žitavou, he made a castle and a tower to be built here. As a motive to establish the arboretum served his often trips and stay in the middle of the rich vegetation of southern Italy. On the establishment of the park also the gardener professionalist Jozef Mišák took part, to whom Ambrózy left the arboretum after his departure to Hungary.

The acreage of the park (acreage of 67 ha) is divided based on geographical principal. It is formed by the oldest core - Ambrózy park (40 ha), Eastern-Asian area (14 ha), Nothern-American area (7,5 ha) and Korean area (5,5 ha). One can get to know here the flora from Far East, Japan, China, Himalayas, Caucasus, middle and fore Asia and many other regions.

The flora is connected with typical architecture of individual regions, supplemented by lakes and fishponds. You can walk here through many paths and admire various trees, flowers and bushes.

The informational system of the park makes it possible to listen at the informational pillar to interpretation (in 6 european languages) that explains what can be found in individual sectors and what is good to look at. In the area you can find a beautiful castle.

Arboretum Mlyňany will surprise you with beautiful wood-coves from the whole world. The most visited period in arboretum is during flowering of beautiful rhododendrons at the end of April and beginning of May. In arboretum some beautiful lakes with many fish can be found. Among the most beautiful and most visited areas of the arboretum surely the eastern-asian exposition belongs. The woods are not only to be seen, but in arboretum you can also buy them.

The arboretum is open for visitors from 1st April till 30st September during working days from 7:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m., during weekends and holidays from 8:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. In the park informational units can be found and this arboretum is visited yearly by approx. 80.000 visitors.
