If you would like to spend your vacation in the mountains, then why not in the highest mountains of Slovakia, which are the High Tatras - a very attractive destination throughout the year with lots of accommodations and tourist centres offering a variety of leisure activities? In summer, it is especially hiking, biking, as well as in winter skiing in ski resorts. The High Tatras are located in northern Slovakia, and are also known by the spas focusing especially on the treatment of respiratory diseases. The centre of the region is the city of High Tatras, which includes mountain villages where tourist attractions, hotels, guesthouses are concentrated. One of the best equipped centres of the mountains, where you can lodge at each step, is the Tatranska Lomnica under Lomnicky Peak, 
one of the highest mountain peaks, which can be reached by cable car and from where you can admire the incredible view as Podtatranska basin as well as other Tatra Peaks. In winter you can ski here in one of the largest ski resorts in Slovakia, in the summer in addition to hiking you have an opportunity to experience adrenaline on a toboggan run. Another important centre of the High Tatras Mountains with lots of guesthouses and hotels and winter sports or summer activities possibilities is the Stary Smokovec, which is the seat of mountain rescue, too. It forms one settlement unit together with Novy Smokovec known also for spa, and downward the valley there can be found Dolny Smokovec, where you will have no problem with a finding of an accommodation according to your wishes is no problem. Perhaps the greater offer of a private accommodation is at disposal in the village of Stara Lesna, near the Tatranska Lomnica, and where you can stay also in luxury wellness hotel as well as in a elegant guesthouse. The highest located settlement of the Tatras, the Strbske Pleso has a wide range of accommodations, including five-star hotel, large and small guesthouses, apartments, and it is known with its modern ski resort.
After a heavy mountain hike or a skiing, a release in the thermal pools of the water park feels good. One can be found just under the Tatra peaks, in the town of Poprad - the administrative and cultural centre of the High Tatras region. The Poprad airport facilitates an access to the mountains from distant places. The second district town of Kežmarok is a historical city where you can admire monuments especially in urban conservation area. Both cities have a variety of accommodation capacities in hotels and boarding houses, some in historic buildings. Just between the district town can be found another popular local settlements with apartments and pensions, the Velka Lomnica offering the opportunity to play golf in the Tatras. In this mountain region, we rank also Belian Tatras towering above the distinctive village of Ždiar - the main tourist destination of Eastern Tatras. Probably nowhere in this mountains are not so much pensions and private accommodations, as in Ždiar, but these you will not miss luxury chalets or cottages with tourist standard as well. If we move to the west, there, situated near the slopes of Krivan Peak, can be reached the village of Podbanské - a very popular place for a holiday in the Tatra Mountains.
