Museum of folk architecture in Čičmany

The museum is located in the distinctive village of Čičmany, which lies in the Strážov Mountains at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level. The village is situated 40 km south of the city of Žilina. The first historical mention of Čičmany dates back to 1272.
The museum occupies two historically protected houses decorated with original Čičmany folk ornaments. Both buildings are managed by the Považie Museum based in Žilina. Inside, visitors can explore several permanent exhibitions. During your stay in Čičmany or its surroundings, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the preserved examples of Čičmany folk architecture.

This exhibition presents the way of life in extended families, which was typical for Čičmany until the beginning of the 20th century.

Located in the Raden’s House, this exhibition illustrates all stages of life, customs, work activities, occupations, livelihood, Čičmany architecture, as well as traditional clothing and textiles.
