Renaissance castle in Humenne

The manor house, the dominant feature of the town of Humenné, was built on the site of a medieval water castle, a simple tower-shaped building surrounded by a moat. It is one of the most important cultural and historical monuments in the area. The manor house was built by the Drugeth family between 1619 and 1641 on the site of a burnt-out manor house.

The manor has a square floor plan with a central courtyard. Its safety was to be guaranteed by square towers in the corners. The tower with the entrance gate and drawbridge over the moat opens in the middle of the façade.

The manor house in Humenné is a national cultural monument and the seat of the museum. Today it is the seat of the Vihorlat Museum and its visitors can see in its premises an art-historical exposition of period interiors, which presents the aristocracy from the Renaissance to the beginning of the 20th century, a natural exposition, occasional exhibitions organized in the gallery, or a permanent exhibition. A concert hall is available for Slovakia, dedicated to the history of the Roma in Slovakia and for visitors to classical music concerts.
