Arboretum Borová hora

Arboretum Borova Hora (Pine Mountain) is situated about 3 km north of the centre of town Zvolen. It is located on the south-western spurs of Zvolen Upland. It was established in 1965 when it have been started planting. First fenced area had an area of 28.38 hectares. This was gradually expanded and today it is 47.84 hectares. The area includes experimental spaces with a total area of 8.97 hectares, which were founded in addressing research tasks in the school forest company of Technical University in Zvolen.

You can see here more than 1,000 forms and cultivars of different species of trees, more than 600 varieties of roses mainly from Czechoslovak, but also the world's major breeders and about the same number of interesting shape and varying species of succulent plants.

There are mainly domestic tree species that originally grow in the forests of Slovakia in their intra- and geographical variability. Foreign-exotic tree species are represented by only a few, mostly forestry important species. Searching important populations of a rare form of domestic tree species in the forests of Slovakia, generative and vegetative reproducing and archiving them as precious gene pool is the most valuable work of arboretum.

Arboretum Borova Hora is open to the public from 15 March to 31 October on weekdays (Monday-Friday), from 7.00 am to 15.00. The sale of plants is during the whole year on weekdays.
