Vratna Valley

Vratna Valley located near the village Terchova – a picturesque village known by many legends of Juraj Janosik, is one of the most attractive resorts of the Little Fatra Mountain Range and in Slovakia too. Visited all year round tourist centre with countless options for accommodation can be found in the region of Upper Povazie, about 30 km from the county town of Zilina. From Terchova to Vratna Valley it is just a few minutes along the road leading by gorges. The valley offers beauties of Little Fatra's nature, but also the ski slopes of one of the best equipped winter sports resort in Slovakia.

All lovers of hiking who like to let themselves charmed by non-traditional forest paths will surely enjoy the holiday in Vratna Valley by full blast. Nature trail Janosik Holes in a nature reserve Rozsutec will uncover a history of Terchova, as well as local flora and fauna and wiil lead you along the rock formations, waterfalls created by stream flowing in canyon where you have to climb the ladders. This route takes you from Terchova - Biely Potok to the part Novy Dvor or Stefanova, lying directly in the valley. It is a settlement with restaurants and accommodation facilities mostly guest houses and cottages. From Stefanova you have a beautiful view of the mountain Big Rozsutec, which can be overcome by capable hikers. Hiking trail leads to peak Stoh, from where you can get along the ridge on the other peaks of Krivan Little Fatra - Poludnovy Grun, Hromove, Chleb and through Snilovske saddle on Velky Krivan. During the hike you can have a rest and refreshing in a mountain chalet. Interesting walking tour can be started right from the top of Chleb, where you can get by a cable car which is used for transporting tourists in the summer season and skiers in winter. You can go also on a longer trip to the Sutov Valley with waterfall.

The most beautiful valley of Little Fatra is also an attractive winter sports centre. In winter the many skiers are looking for accommodation in order to experience the modern equipped ski resort with artificial snow slopes. Vratna Free Time Zone, with 17 slopes with a total length of 14 km, 12 lifts and 2 chairlifts, includes several ski sites. Excellent conditions for skiing in the centres Paseky, Poludnovy Grun, Chleb and Prislop can be enjoyed by skiers in each category and are ideal for families as well as for freeriders. Directly on the slope, from where you have a beautiful view of the valley to the gate, you will also find a chalet with a restaurant.

Accommodation in the Vratna valley is offered by a variety of hotels, guest houses and cottages which are mainly concentrated in several recreation centres. In Stefanova under the peak Boboty and Large Rozsutec you can find several guest houses, cottages, chalets and there is also a hotel with an indoor swimming pool.

Another place in the valley for lodging, the Sokolie cottage settlement, situated near the resorts Prislop and Paseky, offers an unforgettable view of the scenery of Mala Fatra. You also can book accommodation in different types of cabins - from comfortable for demanding clients to small cottages suitable for a group or family. Pleasant stay full of rest can be enjoyed in a wellness hotel with offering various services. You can go to the end of Vratna Valley where there is possibility to stay in a mountain chalet below the peak Chleb near the cable car.
