Smolenice

The village of Smolenice is situated in the region of Trnava, 50 km north-east from Bratislava, at the foothill of the Small Carpathians which has been a protected natural territory since 1976. Smolenice was for the first time mentioned in a deed in 1256 as villa Solmus. Particularly the Smolenice castle is well known in Smolenice, the cave Driny and the highest hill of the Small Carpathians - Záruby - belong among natural attractions. In the village of Smolenice are a number of accommodation possibilities. The visitors can find accommodation in smaller pensions and in private houses. Accommodation services are provided here also by a hotel, as well as by the Smolenice castle.
Above Smolenice is a natural reserve Hlboče valley – a canyon-like valley with rocky formations and carst features. In the upper part of the valley is a 9 m high waterfall, the only one in the Small Carpathians, however, water falls from it usually only at spring. Around Smolenice are also a few ruins of castles, e.g. Ostrý Kameň (Sharp stone), Korlatka or Plavecky castle. So, find accommodation in Smolenice and go to visit these attractions.
