We can only recommend to hikers to visit to one of the largest karst area in Slovakia, which is known for an occurrence of caves, gorges, waterfalls and rocky cliffs. The Slovak Karst National Park is located in the southwest of eastern Slovakia, south of the town Roznava which is the largest centre of the surrounding region of Gemer. Eastwards the national park extends into the territory of the region of Kosice.

With its natural diversity the Slovak Karst represents one of the most beautiful areas of Slovakia. It is typical with limestone plateaus separated by deep valleys and abundant with an occurrence of karst formations. The Slovak Karst with the Aggtelek National Park lying in Hungary forms one mountain range and this common area is the largest karst area in Central Europe. The Slovak Karst offers a large number of caves that are in the list of UNESCO natural heritage, but only Domica, Gombasecka, Krasnohorska and Jasovska Caves are most famous and open to the public.

With its beautiful countryside it is a very popular place for recreation and relaxing for tourists not only from Slovakia but also from abroad, mainly from Hungary. Demanding visitors going for rock climbing as well as leisure tourists of all age categories coming here for nature walks will enjoy the amazing environment of the Slovak Karst. You can explore natural beauty of this area during a hiking along the nature trails and also from the saddle of a cycle thanks to routes, among which the Slovak Karst Cycle Route is the most significant. When you visit the national park you should not miss some of the most exciting sites, including Zadielska gorge, Silicka plateau, nature trail Muran Canyon and do not forget to visit at least one of the known caves.
