The region of Saris

The Saris is one of the Slovak regions which is extending in the northern part of eastern Slovakia. We could characterize it by cultural monuments, beautiful natural scenery and folklore with Rusyn specific elements. The region includes districts, as Prešov, Bardejov, Stropkov, Sabinov and Svidník.

Slovakia's third largest city, the historical town of Prešov is the centre of Saris. The tourists interested in historical monuments can visit the city of Bardejov, listing in Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful cities in Slovakia.

Visitors of the region can see also ruins of several castles, including one of the largest castles in Slovakia, Saris Castle - the centre of Saris in the past. Nowadays it is just ruins. Besides this there is also Plavec Castle above the river Poprad, Zborov Castle in Bardejov district or even Kapusany Castle. Wooden churches, in most Greek-Catholic, which are particularly valuable for its originality and artistic approach, are characteristic sacral monuments of the region.

In the summer season, the water reservoir Domaša with its opportunities for recreation and water sports attracts vacationers. Saris Highlands in the southwest of the region offers favourable conditions for hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts. And do not forget to mention the oldest spas in Slovakia - Bardejov Spa that gives you the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries. It is 5 km away from Bardejov city and is located amidst the beautiful nature of the Upper Saris.

Lest we forget to mention the mountains and hiking, so the most area of this region is covered by Cergov Mountains, giving visitors the opportunity to walking on the trails and to recreation in the mountains. Very popular place in Čergov, the recreation area Drienica - Lysa can be found in the south of the mountains. It is located on the outskirts of the village Drienica and is ideal for winter holidays thanks to two ski areas on top of Lysa, but also for summer vacation, whereas the surrounding countryside is very attractive for hikers. You will find there a number of hotels, sports and wellness services, as well as cottages and apartments, where you can book accommodation.
