Rohace

Probably the most beautiful parts of the Western Tatras, the Rohace belongs to the highest mountain range of the region of Orava. For visitors and hikers it offers beautiful scenery of mountain peaks, natural nooks in surroundings of the Rohacske tarns. Not only easy hiking trails can be found here, but also challenging trekking enthusiasts can enjoy the rock climbing. Go to an all-day family trip on a nature trail along the Rohace lakes that will lead you through an easy route by six tarns, waterfalls and show you the most interesting places in the valley above the mountains with altitudes of over 2,000 meters rises.

If you would like to spend a vacation in Rohace, accommodation can be booked in Zuberec which is the most famous tourist centre of the mountainous areas. Right from the village you can take an interesting all-day hike to the top of the hill Siva (1805 m) considered one the most beautiful mountain peak in Slovakia. Moderately difficult trail leads along the rocky towers, through the woods and under a rock massif of the Biela Skala (White Rock). In Zuberec you can spend not only a summer vacation, but it is worth to visit it in winter as it is a popular winter sports resort thanks to several ski resorts with one directly on the slopes of Rohace in Spalena Valley. There is no problem to find an accommodation because many pensions, apartments and hotels can be found literally everywhere. You can stay in the nearby village of Habovka with a wide range of guest houses and private accommodation.

If you come to the popular village Oravice on the north of the mountain range where in addition to a beautiful natural environment, Meander Themal Park is the major attraction for visitors who can go hiking to Juranova Valley from there. Situated just 6 km to the north from Oravice, the village of Vitanova offers cheap accommodation provided mostly by family houses. If you want to take a break from hiking during your vacation, you can jump in the water of the nearby dams and reservoirs during summer. Towards the north there is the Orava reservoir and to the south of the West Tatras peaks there is Liptovska Mara.
