Danubian Lowland

Danubian Lowland is situated in the south part of the western Slovakia to the north of the Danube River. An extensive landscape area, covering almost one-fifth of the territory of the republic, is divided into two units, namely the Danube Plain, one of the most fertile areas in Slovakia thanks of Rye Island with its groundwater resources, and the Danube hills with altitudes from 110 m to 350 meters.

Thermalpark Dunajska StredaAt first glance, perhaps not as attractive tourist region harbours plenty of opportunities to relax and interesting places to visit. Particular interesting in this region, the thermal baths includes those in Velky Meder, Podhajska and Dunajska Streda. Know by thermal springs, there are also cities as Komarno, Sladkovicovo, Topoľníky or even Diakovce. Amount of reservoirs and lakes suitable for swimming, fishing and water sports can be found on the territory of Danubian Lowland. The most famous are the Sunny Lakes in Senec, which in the summer enjoy a large number of visitors. As we are still by water and swimming, a very popular destination, town of Sturovo offers a place to vacation in the Thermal spa Vadas. As the southern part of Slovakia is a favourite destination especially in the summer, we also mention the famous holiday resort Patince lying between Komarno and Sturovo.

Some oxbows of the rivers Danube and Vah, belonging to natural gems of this area, are kept as nature reserves. These include the Cicov oxbow (Číčovské mŕtve rameno) known as Lion 30 km from Komarno, or Klucovsky oxbow with its beautiful territories full of diverse nature. Nature Reserves can also be found in the village of Zlatna na Ostrove and near the village of Muzla in district of Nove Zamky, where is the Čenkovská steppe, or Horsianska Valley in district of Levice. Among other interesting attractions of ​​the Danubian region can be found water mills on the Small Danube - in Kolarovo, Jelka and Tomasikovo.

Sport opportunities especially cycling are offered by a network of cycle routes, of which the Danubian cycle route leading along the Danube River is the most famous. It is part of an international bicycle path and you get on it to Hungary and Austria. Along the way you can see Water work Gabcikovo along which the route passes.
