Liptovska Mara is the largest water basin in Slovakia. Thanks to its size, it has got the name Slovak or Liptov Sea. It was named after the vanished village of Liptovská Mara that was flooded at the construction of the basin. Only the gothic chapel situated in the location of Havránok has been preserved from the village.
It is a great starting point for the tourists to trips to Choc Mountains, Western Tatras and Low Tatras. On Liptovská Mara near the town of Liptovsky Mikulas ofers great possibilities for fishing, you can also go on a cruise with a ship. In summer, the basin offers wide opportunities for water sports as bathing, boating, surfing, water scooters. Nearby Liptovská Mara there are a lot of resorts offering accommodation.
