Region of Lower Povazie

Lower Povazie is located in Western Slovakia in the area of ​​the lower basin of the river Vah. Its territory lies mostly on flat terrain belonging to the Danubian Lowland. Its north-western boundary consists of the Little Carpathians, but also Povazsky Inovec mountain ranges affects in the northeast of the region.

The centre of Lower Povazie, the county town of Trnava is the largest city of the region and offers a number of sacred monuments. Spa town of Piestany, where you can relax and regenerate in the world-famous spas known by treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, is one of the major tourist destinations in the region. You will find there luxury spa hotels as well as the amount of pensions offering comfortable accommodation. The thermal pool and water park Galandia in Galanta district town situated in the southern part of Lower Povazie is very popular. Only 7 km from Galanta, there could be found another thermal swimming pool in Sladkovicovo.

Interesting environment in point of view of tourism and attractions that visitors can see is offered by Smolenice village lying at the foot of Little Carpathians near Trnava. There is the Smolenice Castle above the village, Driny cave deserves the visit too and the Little Carpathians are ideal for recreational hiking. At the southern tip of another mountain range, which is the Povazsky Inovec, there is Hlohovec, 22 km south of Piestany. Both cities can be the starting point for hikes into Povazsky Inovec.

There are also summer resorts by water, among these the most famous is the water reservoir Slnava close to Piestany, where accommodation can be found directly on the bank of a lake. The Kralova reservoir at Sered town and Bukova reservoir offer the opportunity for swimming in the summer season.
