Dolna Strehova

Dolná Strehová is a village, which lies in the region of Novohrad situated at the south of the middle Slovakia near the border with Hungary. The village, now known for the thermal resort AQUATERMAL Strehová, belonged in the past to the most important municipalities surrounding region. It fulfils the role of guarding settlements, as evidenced by the naming ridges called Strazna hora (Sentry Mountain) with height of 332 m, situated to the south of the Dolna Strehova. It offers a beautiful view of the river Ipel.

In terms of tourism, the village is known for its year-round thermal swimming pool, recently renovated, which is becoming popular for increasingly amounts of visitors and vacationers. The spa offers several swimming pools and there are also water slide, children's slides and other water attractions. You will find indoor pools and you can also relax in the wellness centre with sauna and Jacuzzi. Free time can be spent by sporting like football, volleyball and children will have fun in the playground.

If you have enough of the water during your stay, you can visit the village where you will see the mansion from the 18th century with the exposure of poet Imre Madách, and his tomb in the adjacent park. There is also Evangelical Church and the Roman-Catholic Church in Dolna Strehova. For nature you can go to the nearby groves, where you can go mushrooming. The surrounding rivers Ipel and Tisovník as well as the dam Ľuboreč are ideal for fishing. The Blue Stone Castle (Hrad Modrý Kameň) is a great tourist attraction of surroundings. It can be found 15 km away, in the village Modry Kamen. Inside the castle there is a museum with an exhibition of toys and Puppet Cultures, which is the only one of its kind in Slovakia. You can also visit district towns as Lucenec and Velky Krtis, and from the village it is not far to Hungary, where you get through the border crossing Slovenske Darmoty.

Accommodation in Dolná Strehová can be booked in a hotel with a wellness centre directly in the area of thermal swimming pool. If you prefer a lower category and cheap accommodation, for you, there is a camping site, hostel and log huts.
