Choc Mountains

Choc Mountains lie on the north of eastern part of the region of Liptov and on the south of the Orava region. From the west they are a continuation of Great Fatra Mountains and eastward they pass into the Western Tatras. The hill Large Choc which is known by its views of the surrounding area reigns to this by size not too large mountain range.

Although the Choc Mountains do not offer the possibility of hiking the ridge, it teems with beautiful valleys, which you should definitely visit. Among the most attractive tourist places in the mountains include Prosiecka valley, the Kvacany valley and the mentioned Large Choc.

At the southern foot of the mountain you will find several popular places for swimming, which can also be the starting point for hikes. Summer holiday can be enjoyed on the banks of dam Liptovska Mara where you can stay in several resort around it. The village of Besenova with its year round thermal swimming pool and water park is located near the western bank of the water reservoir. Lying at the edge of Choc Mountains there is popular village of Lucky, which is known for health spas and Aqua Vital resort. On the territory of the mountains and in its vicinity, it is possible to see historical monuments. The ruins of Likava Castle and Liptov Castle towers right on the hills of Choc Mountains. On the north side of Liptovska Mara there can be seen archaeological site Havranok.

If you yould like to stay in city during your visit of Choc Mountains, the closest cities include Ruzomberok lying southwest of the mountains, and Liptovsky Mikulas to the southeast. Both these cities belong to the region of Liptov. Another town, Dolny Kubin near the northern slopes is located in the Orava region.
