White Carpathians

White Carpathian Mountains lies on the western Slovakia, on the border with the Czech Republic. It has a southwest-northeast direction and it stretches from Myjava Upland situated in the region of Central Povazie to Javorniky Mountains in Upper Povazie region. White Carpathians, which were declared a protected landscape area, offer a lot of natural beauty and protected natural formations and landmarks. You can see the river sources, deciduous beech forests alternating with meadows, which together form a diverse scenic environment, providing a comfortable place to relax in nature.

White Carpathians - Vrsatec cliffsIts south-western foot reaches to the region of Zahorie, where the town of Skalica and its urban area - resort Zlatnicka valley lying below the forested slopes of the White Carpathians is the main tourist centre. The town of Myjava is lying also near the southern slopes of the mountain range. Regarded as a good starting point for hikes, the town of Stara Tura is  suitable for those who want to go to the highest peak of the White Carpathians – Velka Javorina. Towards the north, the eastern slopes are descending to the river Vah, on which the other cities of the Middle Povazie lie. Southernmost of these, Nove Mesto nad Vahom is extending also at the northern margin of the Little Carpathians. Near the town in the village Haluzice, there can be seen the natural landmark Haluzicka gorge.

The largest city under the slopes of the White Carpathian Mountains, the historic town of Trencin is located also near the Strazov Mountains, which extend to the eastern part of the city. You can take a pleasant walk along the nature trail to the limestone top of the Krasín hill near the village of Dolna Suca, 8 km north of Trencin. The Vrsatec cliffs (Vršatské bradlo) situated north of the town Ilava are the gem of the region Central Povazie. This significant area of the White Carpathians declared a natural reserve, can be seen above the village Vrsatske Podhradie. There can be found also the ruins of the Vrsatec castle, built in the Middle Ages. A nature trail on rocky terrain offers an easy hiking. Located on the northern edge of the White Carpathians, the town of Puchov belongs yet to the territory of the region of Upper Povazie.
