Podkylava, ruins of castles and forts

Tematín Castle is a castle ruin in western Slovakia. The castle was originally built in the second half of the 13th century. It was fundamentally reconstructed by the Thurzo family, owners of the castle from 1524. The last owner was Miklós Bercsényi, general of the anti-Habsburg insurrection army. The castle was turned into ruins after it was sieged in 1710 as a part of the suppression of the anti-Habsburg uprising.

The Beckov castle was built in the 12th century as a part of border fortification of Hungarian Empire. The castle flourished in the 14 - 15th century, later became shabby. The historical and archaeological research was carried out in the 70s of the 20th century. After the reconstruction in 1996 the ruins of the castle were strengthened and open for the public. Open: May-October, Tuesday-Sunday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Korlátka is a ruin of a castle guarding the so-called The Czech way. The castle is located in the Little Carpathians, 455 m above sea level. m., above the village Cerová at the part of Rozbehy. It dates from the 13th century and was abandoned in the 18th century. Today, the fragments of the cylindrical tower (unique in Slovakia), the remains of the palace and walls have been preserved. Oponice Castle is a ruin of a castle dating from the 13th century. The castle gradually belonged to Matúš Čák, Mikuláš Gutkeled, Dezider Kaplay and Mikuláš Ewrs. In 1430 the castle was conquered and damaged by Hussite troops, but it was repaired immediately. It gradually fell into the hands of increasingly poor owners, who restored it during the 16th and early 17th centuries as part of the anti-Turkish defense, but with great financial difficulties.
