Bali with the provincial capital at Denpasar is an Indonesian island located the western of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It lies 3.2 km east of Java, and is approximately 8 degrees south of the equator. East to west, the island is cca 150 km wide and spans circa 110 km north to south. The highest point is Mount Agung at 3,142 m high. The largest city is the provincial capital, Denpasar, near the southern coast. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, and beaches in the south have white sand, but in the north and west have black sand.
